Ozzy Osbourne was unable to perform at Friday night's (February 18) tsunami benefit concert at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California, due to a family emergency. Osbourne was scheduled to sing a few songs at the show with Camp Freddy, the "covers" band led by former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. The group was instead joined by Rob Zombie, Bush vocalist Gavin Rossdale, Filter frontman Richard Patrick and Cypress Hill's B-Real and Sen Dog during a set that included songs from Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, the Sweet and the Stooges, as well as White Zombie's "Thunder Kiss '65."
Linkin Park, Jay-Z and No Doubt were among the artists that performed at the show, dubbed the Concert For South Asia. Proceeds were going to Music For Relief, the organization started by Linkin Park and the American Red Cross to raise money for tsunami relief efforts.
Another major no-show at the concert was Blink 182, who announced on Friday that they could not play "due to unforeseen circumstances."
Dave Navarro posted a post-concert recap at his personal website, 6767.com, in which he hinted that Blink had broken up the day of the charity event. He retracted that statement on Sunday (February 20), calling it "a mistake" and "untrue."
Osbourne issued his own statement apologizing for missing the show. Although no further details about the nature of the family emergency were available at press time, a publicist said that it was "not of a grave nature."
In other Osbourne-related news, more rumors have surfaced regarding the lineup of this summer's Ozzfest, the tenth edition of the popular hard rock festival. Rob Zombie and Black Label Society are supposedly headed for mainstage slots, while Mudvayne and Killswitch Engage are two of the names being thrown around for the second stage. It's speculated that Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden will co-headline the bill this year, with the late Eighties "classic" lineup of Anthrax also reportedly on board.
