Rocker Ray Davies to be honored in London

Kinks frontman/co-founder Ray Davies
will be honored with a lifetime achievement award from American
performing rights organization BMI in London on October 3
The BMI Icon honor, to be presented during the group's
annual awards dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, goes to
songwriters and artists who have had "a unique and indelible
influence on generations of music makers," BMI said.
Previous recipients include Steve Winwood and Van Morrison.
BMI collects royalties on behalf of songwriters and
copyright owners from public performances of their compositions
on broadcasters and in venues such as concert halls, bars and
restaurants.
