Christian singer Chris Tomlin leads nominees for Wednesday's Dove Awards with 10, including artist of the year and male vocalist of the year.
Relient K, the David Crowder Band, Natalie Grant, Joy Williams, BarlowGirl, Switchfoot, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, the Crabb Family and Israel Houghton also received multiple nominations from the Gospel Music Association.
The leading nominees show the range of today's Christian music, from the Crabb Family's Southern gospel to Grant's pop stylings to Switchfoot's hard rock.
The strong showing by Grant, Williams and sister trio BarlowGirl also mark a return of female acts to the forefront.
Singers Kirk Franklin and Rebecca St. James will host the 37th annual awards show at the Grand Ole Opry House.
Besides artist and male vocalist, Tomlin's nominations include one for songwriter of the year and four for his self-penned songs "Holy is the Lord" and "How Great is Our God." Each is nominated in both the song of the year and worship-song categories.
Tomlin's three other nominations came from collaborations in the special event album category.
Two of the year's top country hits also received nominations: Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and the Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton duet "When I Get Where I'm Going" are both up for country recorded song of the year.
The Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell received his first Dove nod in the inspirational recorded song category for his cover of Michael English's "In Christ Alone."
Steven Curtis Chapman, who has collected 49 Dove Awards, more than any other artist in gospel music history, has a chance to pass the 50-trophy mark if one of his three nominations results in a Dove Award.
Awards will be handed out in 42 categories with winners chosen by members of the GMA.
