Elliott Yamin Gets Handsy

Idle hands may be the devil's playthings, but Idol hands are
apparently the victims of mindless injury.
American
Idol finalist Elliott Yamin is recovering from hand surgery after
breaking his pinky finger in a freak accident, according to
People magazine.
The 28-year-old third-place finisher
went under the knife for an hour last week after breaking his left-hand
digit in a bout of late night rock throwing--sadly, that's not a
euphemism--in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia.
A source
told the magazine that Yamin was injured when "his finger got caught on
a rod holding down a rock" that he was attempting to hurl at a street
sign.
It'll hardly qualify him for Jackass 3, but it's
a start.
Surprisingly, inspiration for the stone-flinging
reportedly struck after Yamin and his friends logged some time at a
local watering hole.
"My finger snapped back and broke," he
told People. "I had to get a plate and two screws and I'm wearing
a cast.
"I'm doing okay. It's not hampering me."
Luckily, Yamin's lack of dexterity won't affect his performing
schedule--who knew not playing an instrument would come in so handy for
a musician?--as he's still on track to perform tonight in Birmingham
with Lmbo, the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra.
"Everything is
scheduled as planned," he said. "I'm good."
Yamin, who wrapped
the American Idols Live! tour last month, said it will take between five
and six weeks before his pinky is fully functional.
In the
meantime, the singer is keeping plenty busy.
On Oct. 8, he
will hold his first solo gig at the Virginia State Fair. Portions of the
ticket sales will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, for
which the Idol alum has been an outspoken advocate.
The crooner is also continuing to meet with label reps to avoid earning
the distinction of being the only top three Idol finalist to not
have secured a record deal.
"He's entertaining offers," a
spokeswoman from Yamin's management company told the New York
Post earlier this summer. "There are two companies interested.
"Elliott is involved in a lot of charity work and has put a lot
of time into that and then went straight into the Idol
tour...he's just waiting for the right offer. He's got a few things in
the works and will have something firmed up very soon."
Though
not with go-to Idol label 19 Entertainment.
Yamin told
his hometown paper, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, that he will not
be signing with the label of choice for fellow contestants Taylor Hicks,
Katherine McPhee, Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler, all of whom have
albums due out this fall.
