George Strait is still blazing a trail through country music.

The country legend, who had his 55th number-one single this year and was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, leads this year's Country Music Association Awards with five nominations.

He's up for Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist and Best Single (for "Wrapped"), as well as for Best Album for It Just Comes Natural and Musical Event for the live version of "Hey Good Lookin'" with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson. Songwriters Bill Anderson, Buddy Cannon and Jamey Johnson were nominated for song of the year for his hit "Give It Away."

Giving Strait a run for his money is Brad Paisley (hubby of Father of the Bride star Kimberly Williams), who also scored five nominations for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album (5th Gear), Single ("Ticks") and Video for "Online."

Also up for Entertainer of the Year are Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban, while other male vocalist contenders include Josh Turner, Chesney, and Urban

As for the ladies, the Female Vocalist of the Year category pits American Idol alum Carrie Underwood (who is also up for Single of the Year and Song of the Year for "Before He Cheats") against Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, and Reba McEntire.

The top nominations were announced Thursday on ABC's Good Morning America by Sara Evans and Kristian Bush and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles. The rest of the contenders were revealed in Nashville by singers Montgomery Gentry and Taylor Swift, a nominee for the Horizon Award for new artists.

The CMA Awards are scheduled for Nov. 7 in Nashville. They'll be broadcast live on ABC.
