Is Duffy the Next Amy Winehouse?

05/13/2008 1:00 AM, E! Online

In short, yes. But in a good way.

Duffy's got nice teeth. Her boyfriend's not incarcerated. And we're pretty sure she doesn't run around the streets of London at all hours of the night in bloody ballet slippers.

Now the 23-year-old British retro-soul sensation is bringing her fantastic debut album, Rockferry, to America with an awesome hit to boot in the raucous "Mercy." It's probably just a coincidence that the lyrics go, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Ponder making the switch while you check out the rest of this week's releases:

Death Cab for Cutie: Narrow Stairs

The O.C. favorites' latest album isn't for everyone, just the people that like droning guitars, reedy vocals and four-minute song intros. Is this you? Check out a cool DCFC doc here.

Listen: Narrow Stairs

The Submarines: Honeysuckle Weeks

Maybe you loved their last album, the one the great artwork, or more likely you heard their latest single "Brightest Hour" on Grey's Anatomy. Either way, you're happy. We are, too.

Listen: "Brightest Hour"

Jason Mraz: We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things

His music's all right, but what's most impressive is how this hat-wearing laid-back singer-songwriter totally worked his magic on Elvis' totally hot granddaughter, Riley Keough. Wait, that's that other hat-wearing laid-back singer-songwriter, Ryan Cabrera, isn't it? Good thing he's got an album out this week, too. So take your pick.

Listen: "Make It Mine"

Also Out: Bryan Adams, 11; Foxy Brown, Brooklyn's Don Diva; T-Bone Burnett, Tooth of Crime; Cherish, The Truth; Joe Cocker, Hymn for My Soul; the Fashion, S/T, Old 97's, Blame It on Gravity; We Are Scientists, Brain Thrust Mastery
