Just Enough Education To Perform
05/01/2001 5:22 PM, Yahoo! Music Mike Lipton
With their 1999 release Performance And Cocktails still hanging in the charts (at last glance), British stars (and American unknowns) Stereophonics are ready to try and duplicate the success of their four-time platinum predecessor. Singer/guitarist/writer Kelly Jones--whose medium-grit, sandpaper pipes recall the Guess Who's Burton Cummings or Del Amitri's Justin Currie--hasn't lost his knack for penning a tune or putting it to a melody. With the exception of the swaggering "Vegas Two Times," Just Enough may not pack the same wallop as Cocktails, but tunes like "Lying In The Sun" and the soaring "Watch Them Fly Sundays" instantly stand out as some of the band's best to date. Meanwhile, "Everyday I Dream Of Money" is an expertly told tale about an armored truck driver obsessed with stealing his load.
