Latter Days: The Best...Vol. 2 [ECD]

I suppose it was only a matter of time before Led Zeppelin became "repackage"material. Unlike the Doors, who have issued more greatest hits albums thanactual studio releases, Led Zeppelin steered clear of such hype, preferringcryptic album covers, bizarre song titles, and tunes that were anything butverse-chorus-verse-chorus. Sure, they were perfect boxed set fodder, butdistilling it down to a two-CD "Best-Of" is inconclusive at best. The only thingas unnerving as seeing the four members of Zep cheesily cut and pasted into"Astronaut" gear is staring at the track selection and wondering who had thepainful job of taking their final four albums (not including the outtakecollection Coda) and coming up with something that would fit onto one CD. These arenÆt three-minute pop songs, yÆknow? The CDÆs enhanced with a liveperformance video of "Kashmir," which is to ensure that all Zep completistsbuy this sucker up. But donÆt be a "sucker" yourself. They only made eightstudio albums in their day and any one of those would make a more sensibleintroduction.
SOUNDS LIKE: Blue Cheer, Kingdom Come, David Coverdale, Ratt, Terry Reid
