This lively record is maddening--Blind Melon was clearly just beginning to flower creatively when its career was cut short by Shannon Hoon's death. Far more diverse than the band's debut, it's also less dreamy and harder-hitting. With tunes like the glorious "Galaxie" and reflective, acoustic "Mouthful Of Cavities"--not to mention "Skinned," the wry homage to Ed Gein--Soup could have gone a long way in making Blind Melon lasting superstars.
