Forever

Egomania in measured doses is a necessary component of pop. At his best, Bobby Brown exuded a lethal combination of cajones and charisma. But on his long-delayed (rehab/ marriage/ New Edition reunion/ etc.) third solo record, Brown is all bombast and no substance. Where once he was cocky, now Brown is irritable and self-absorbed. Part of the problem is that Brown is given precious little to work with. Where once he had the defiant mantle of "My Prerogative"(which he refers to in the opening song "It's My Thing") now all Brown has are threats of impending world domination and his constant assertion that he still matters. Literally five of the songs deal with Bobby coming back, and the notion that the world, and I'm paraphrasing here, doesn't know how hard it is to be... Bobby Brown. The other dominant themes on Forever (besides from his comeback) are fuck you if you thought my marriage was over and fuck all of you who thought my marriage was over. All of which makes Forever interminable.
