So who's this Jah guy and how do we stop people from writing songs about him? I mean, enough is enough. Van Morrison got a lot more boring when he started singing about "Gud" and Black Oak Arkansas were never any good, mostly because they sang about "Keepin' the Faith" rather than finding a way to play better. Ziggy starts things with "Keep My Faith" and ends with "Jah Will Be Done." In between, I learn "We Are One" and all the rest of the usual rhetoric associated with hippies who don't realize that regular showers would bring us all closer as a people. Marley has branched out musically, working past reggae to incorporate pop ("Beautiful Day") and late-night folk-funk ("Gone Away"). I get the feeling that if he were to put down the "One Good Spliff" long enough clear his thinking, the clichés would melt into the sundown and a new day would dawn for the modern world.
