Who I Am
06/28/1994 3:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Bill Hobbs
Jackson's most introspective album so far, Who I Am is a statement of personal and musical character. "Gone Country" pokes good-natured fun at how country music, once disdained by the rest of the music industry, suddenly became the place to be for washed-up folkies, disillusioned Vegas lounge singers and stressed-out L.A. refugees, while the nakedly painful "Job Description" is Jackson's attempt to explain to his children why he's gone so much. "Livin' On Love" recaptures the same easygoing spirit of Jackson's previous love trips, while his remake of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" is frisky enough to make you ignore the blatant attempt to recreate the aura of "Chattahoochee."
