Self-Destructive Pattern

It's taken more than two years for the Los Angeles metal band Spineshank to release the follow-up to its second album The Height Of Callousness. Of course, the reason it takes so long these days is because bands spend most of their time on the road and when is there time to think about, never mind record, a new album. With GGGarth Richardson (Mudvayne, Jesus Lizard) guaranteeing them his trademark industrial crunch, it was only a matter of writing the songs. Sure enough, these guys are pros and rose to the occasion. The bass is detuned down low for that extra guttural kick, Richardson gives Tommy Decker's drums a robotic consistency and singer Jonny Santos will be making appointments with his throat specialist after spending a year belting out these unrelenting tracks. With titles such as "Violent Mood Swings," "Smothered," "Consumed," "Obsessive Compulsive," and "Falls Apart," the more appropriate physician might be Dr. Phil, whose new book Life Matters is filled with tips and information for getting your life back on track. However, these guys might do better to work their angst off in a stadium near you.
