King James Version

For most, Harvey Danger is known as the band responsible for the 1998 alt-rock hit "Flagpole Sitta," a semi-entertaining/semi-annoying angst-ridden ode that might have been impressive had it been released 15 years earlier, around the time of the Violent Femmes' debut--or better yet, in the '70s, when Jonathan Richman was still fronting the Modern Lovers.
That said, imagine the surprise to see the Danger boys re-emerge with two years post-"Pole" with not only a not album, but a damn good one at that.
From the opening chords of the proto-punk workout "Meetings With Remarkable Men (Show Me The Hero)," complete with references to Morrissey and Kip Winger (!!!), to "Pike St./Park Slope," a piano ballad so fey it makes Ben Folds sound macho, King James Version is thoroughly entertaining. So what are you waiting for? Get off your flagpole and buy this record.
