Multi-talented musical guide Buck Ram and his biggest act, the Platters, delivered an astonishing run of vocal hits during the latter half of the '50s and early '60. Perfect for nights at inspiration point and astute enough for discerning music geeks of today, such Platters smashes as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "Only You," and "The Great Pretender" still impress with loads of top-flight harmonies and rock & roll-lite symphonic washes. Hearty fans will no doubt want to invest in a more thorough collection, but newcomers wanting just a taste are sure to enjoy this hits-heavy 12-track set.
