Gods Own Medicine Review

Goth-pop was defined by the Mission, who took the heavy goth sounds of the Sisters of Mercy and mixed it with better melody and Led Zeppelin-style arrangements. This album is where it all took off. The independent singles that the Mission released were the perfect warm-up for the bombastic and shimmering songs on God's Own Medicine. The opener "Wasteland" is the perfect example of the formula that Wayne Hussey and company used to take over the U.K. in the late '80s, while the album's ballads, "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" and "Love Me to Death," stand up well next to rockers like "Sacrilege" and the stunning single "Severina." This album marks an important chapter in the history of both goth and British rock. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide
