Hang Time Review
07/13/2005 4:22 AM, AMG
More riff-heavy than usual, with considerable help from producer Lenny Kaye, Hang Time turned out to be the best of Soul Asylum's early records. The guitars of Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy synchronize into a sonic wad of incredible power, while the songs (especially "Cartoon," "Some Time to Return," and "Beggars and Choosers") showed that Pirner had become a first-rate songwriter. Clever without being glib, and heartfelt without resorting to clichés, Pirner was doing something that eluded many of his peers: dealing with the transition from youth to adulthood and all the inherent conflicts that arise during this time. They would become superstars later, but this record should have done the trick. ~ John Dougan, All Music Guide
