God Knows It's True Review

The four-song stopgap EP God Knows It's True bridges the divide between the molten proto-grunge of Teenage Fanclub's debut album A Catholic Education and the raggedly glorious power pop of the classic follow-up Bandwagonesque -- their first effort with producer Don Fleming, it captures the band at a pivotal moment in their evolution, maintaining the loud, laconic guitar approach of their earliest material while allowing their melodic smarts to blossom as well. The title cut is the clear highlight, an irresistibly catchy gem (complete with guitar heroics) on par with anything in the Fannies' catalog; "So Far Gone" is nearly as good, bolstered by the crazed abandon of Brendan O'Hare's drumming. The two instrumentals, "Weedbreak" and "Ghetto Blaster," are throwaways at best, but even clocking in at just under 13 minutes, God Knows It's True is essential stuff for the faithful. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
