In an attempt to resurrect his recording career, Tom Jones turned to country music in the early '80s. Darlin', his first attempt at string-laden country-pop, was also his most successful. Jones sounds revitalized for most of the record, breathing life into formulaic material like "Lady Lay Done" and "Dime Queen of Nevada."
