This eight-song budget album is an abbreviated version of Burt Bacharach's debut album, Hit Maker, the Man! Burt Bacharach and His Songs, originally released by Kapp Records (1447) in 1965 and reissued under the title Burt Bacharach Plays His Hits (Kapp KS-3577; MCA MCAD-11681). It consists of recordings of songs by Bacharach and Hal David from the mid-'60s, most of which had been hits in versions by Dionne Warwick and others. A female vocal chorus sings occasional lyrics and otherwise oohs and aahs its way through the melodies (an unidentified male tenor sings "What's New, Pussycat?"). The arrangements are not far removed from those on the hit recordings, which is not surprising, since Bacharach often arranged the music and produced the sessions for the recordings of his songs. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
