Little Hands Review

07/13/2005 4:30 AM, AMG

Folk-pop singer Jonathan Edwards' 1987 album Little Hands applies his signature style to classic children's songs like "Winkin, Blinkin and Nod," "Three Blind Mice," and "Oh Susanna," as well as originals. For the most part, the album is just Edwards and his guitar, as on "Red Light, Green Light" (which sounds a lot like his hit "Sunshine"), but the sweet harmonies and fiddle on "My Little Girl" and the banjo on "Oh Susanna" add a charming, authentic touch. The bittersweet title track, the brisk, bustling "Children, Go Where I Send Thee," and the tightly-wound ballad "Flies in the Buttermilk" are among the many highlights of this genuine, non-condescending children's album, which will appeal to Edwards fans -- and folk fans -- of all ages. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
