The More You Ignore Me Review

A smart, lively cut from Your Arsenal, "You're the One for Me, Fatty" is almost a summertime frolic in its own way, with the title and overall mood still being as classically Morrissey as it gets. His band turns in a tight, energetic performance, with Mick Ronson's production skills showing through, while the man himself delivers things with relaxed aplomb. The two B-sides aren't as strong in comparison but are both fine enough numbers, further evidence as to how the Your Arsenal sessions had re-energized him. "Pashernate Love" is a more explicitly glam-styled romp -- check out the production on the guitars and the descending chords -- that kicks along well with some amusing one-liners to boot. "There Speaks a True Friend," meanwhile, is also upbeat and distinctly groovy in the early-'70s glam sense, in this case with brisk acoustic guitar leading the way, before ending on a sudden tape-stop. The tone throughout is relaxed and fun, almost in spite of some of the lyrics. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
