Wreck Of The Day

Twenty-year-old Anna Nalick is quite the success story. A six song home demo lands in the hands of Blind Melon’s Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith who happen to be working as a production team in search of new talent and with the aid of Eric Rosse whose work includes Tori Amos put together a top flight cast of studio musicians from Zak Rae (Alanis, Macy Gray) to Joey Waronker (Beck, Nelly Furtado) to assist the young Nalick to realize her musical vision. Her vocals are assured throughout and her lyrics are eloquent beyond her years. And there’s no denying that Wreck of the Day is a polished, passionate piece of contemporary pop, both brazenly commercial and exceedingly personal. Nowhere is that better exemplified than “Breathe (2AM),” the album’s obvious single with its catchy chorus, where in the final verse Nalick nails it: “Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud.” You can’t be blamed for being curious.
