Going Under Review

07/13/2005 7:27 AM, AMG

Evanescence's "Going Under" is one of the harder tracks on the band's debut record, Fallen. The nu-metal grind is lightened by the tinkling pianos and hip-hop-inspired backing vocals, making the song perfect for those who find the male histrionics of Limp Bizkit and their ilk too oppressive. On their U.K. single for "Going Under," the song appears twice: the album version and a live version recorded at WNOR in Norfolk, VA. The radio version is acoustic and gives Amy Lee's vocals free rein to soar. The third song on the disc is an acoustic version of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box," recorded at WXDX in Pittsburgh, PA. Lee's vocals, which sound awe-inspiring on the band's own material, are a bit on the overly dramatic side here and serve to make the song into a bad joke. Also included is the video for "Going Under." ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
