Death By Sexy

Josh Homme may be in search of an eternal heaviness with his mainframe bands, first Kyuss and now Queens Of The Stone Age, but when it comes to his side projects he’s on a very different quest. Eagles Of Death Metal is Homme’s collaboration with his old high school pal Jesse Hughes and together the two assemble a hyperactive pop music that sounds as if Prince got loaded up on methamphetamine and decided to jam with the garage band down the street. The vocals are primarily falsetto and likely to repeat the song title until catchphrases such as “I Gotta Feeling” and “Cherry-Cola” are permanently tattooed in your memory, while the playing is loose and raw, sticking to basic rock chords and drumming (courtesy of Homme) that’s pure devil-may-care. The cat-and-mouse stops and starts of “Solid Gold” are hilarious, showcasing the duo’s telepathy that remains surprisingly tight as they attempt to fake each other out. We should all have so much fun.
