Business Up Front/Party in the Back

The album title is a reference to the “mullet” haircut that was once considered to be quite cool and has since become a punchline (and an album title!), which should give all of us pause when considering our current “coolness.” (Doublecheck that current haircut and your shoes.) Atlanta’s Family Force 5, comprised of twin brothers Jacob and Joshua Olds and non-twin Solomon with two friends, Nathan Currin and Derek Mount, who sport special stage-names such as Soul Glow Activatur, Fatty and Chap Stique, play what’s been described as “crunk-rock” and likened to Limp Bizkit and the Beastie Boys for what is loud irreverence, an insistent prankster’s sense of humor and a heavily-processed sound that’s tailor-made for frat parties where people like to yell a lot. The group sport their sensitive side for “X-Girlfriend” where best friends do very un-best friendly type things. But mostly they prefer the “Phys Ed Instructor” approach to rock with the aerobically-correct “Put UR Hands Up.” Need to lose five pounds in a week? Stop huffing glue and try this!
