I Created Disco

Truth told, Calvin Harris didn’t create disco. But this Dumfries, Scotland bedroom recording artist has the cheek and verve to con his way anywhere. So why not give it a shot? His audacity has already paid off. Barely in his 20s, Harris came back home from London and fired up a MySpace page and lured the interest of the major label recording industry who have watched the young lad wrack up several dance hits (“Acceptable In The ‘80s,” “The Girls,” “Vegas”) that merge primitive electronic tones, novel lyric details (he likes girls of every ethnic persuasion and a colorful wardrobe, for starters) and bold pop strokes. It’s as if the Human League, the Monroes, and Madness got together to play the Atari 2600, or as Harris envisions it, an “Amiga” computer. This futuristic retro-electronica groove is pure Back To The Future and one that never takes itself too seriously. A good thing, since who would want a dour lump leading a dance party?
