(4/21/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Female rock group Lillix is preparing to release its debut album, Falling Uphill, on May 27. The band's single, "It's About Time," is starting to get airplay across the country.
Singer-keyboardist Lacey Lee Evin said that she and her younger sister, guitarist Tasha Ray Evin, started playing together in the seventh grade, and eventually met bassist Louise Burns who joined the fold. The recent addition of drummer Kim Urhahm completed the Canadian quartet.
"It started out Tasha and I, my sister, she's in the band, we just wanted to start a band one day, it was back in October '97," Evin said. "Tasha met Louise in school, and just asked her if she wanted to play bass in the band. I don't know, we just started from there, started out writing our own songs, playing together--we used to have a different drummer. Kim just recently joined, and we've just been playing gigs ever since."
The four girls write their own music, and they said that unlike other all-girl bands, their new album will reflect more rock influences. Evin said her influences range anywhere from Thin Lizzy to Radiohead.
"Growing up, I listened to lots of classic rock because of my dad, it was always just playing in the house," Ervin added. "Lots of Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Van Halen, lots of the heavy stuff. For recent bands, I listen to lots of Weezer, and Radiohead, Queen and Supertramp--I guess they're not recent but... They're my particular favorites."
