(3/11/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Musiq (formerly Musiq Soulchild) escorted fellow soul singer India.Arie to last month's Grammy Awards. He shared that the evening was very difficult for him as a friend since Arie came away empty-handed after being nominated in seven categories.
"It was definitely hard for me, not because she didn't win a Grammy, you know--that was that. However, it was more so because it affected her the way that it did, and as a friend, you know, I feel that. I was just more disappointed because she was a little disappointed," he said.
Musiq also shared that coming home without a Grammy might actually have helped Arie: "It's real interesting to me that she was nominated possibly more than everybody that was nominated for the situation--give or take a person, or band, or group--and she walked away with none," he said. "That's just very odd to me. I personally think it only makes her look better because it definitely heighten the interest, and then you have those fans that she already won over, that's kind of disappointed by it, you know? It's only gonna make people want to support her that much more."
In related news, Musiq was in New York on Sunday and Monday (March 10 and 11) to shoot the video for his new single, "Halfcrazy," with video director Chris Robinson. The song will be the first release from the singer's sophomore set, Juslisen, which is due out May 7.
