C-Murder's Defense Team Responds To Indictment

(3/2/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- C-Murder (Corey Miller), who was indicted for second-degree murder last Thursday (February 28), "vehemently denies" all charges, and is expected to plead not guilty, according to a statement issued by D3 Entertainment, the artist's record company.

Miller is accused of fatally shooting a teen in a Harvey, Louisiana nightclub last summer.

Witness testimony supporting Miller's innocence had not been revealed to the public, according to the rapper's legal defense team. In a statement, Miller's representatives note that many witnesses saw someone else fire the gun. The first 911 calls reported that the shooter was unknown. The alleged assailant was a teenager from the West Bank. And witnesses who named Miller as the shooter initially identified another person.

A spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where Miller is incarcerated, did not reply to LAUNCH by press time.

Miller's brother, Master P, maintained C-Murder's innocence when in Los Angeles for the NAACP Image Awards. "I think in every family you have somebody that goes the wrong direction. I definitely been praying for him that one day he will get focused. With me, I'm glad that people judge me for an individual. And me and my son are definitely trying to do the right thing. I just think he got caught up with the wrong crowd, and hanging with the wrong people. Even though he's innocent on this...But when you make that type of money, and you come from hip-hop, people are looking at you, so you definitely have to wonder and worry about the places. You can't do the same thing you used to do. So, I think he just got trapped up in the situation. That a lot of these stars have gotten trapped up into," he said.
