Hear a Preview of Trent Reznor’s Haunting ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Score

A new trailer for director David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was unveiled late last night. This sneak preview didn't come with an awesome cover of a Led Zeppelin song, but a four-minute sample of Trent Reznor's score. If you've already read the books or seen the Swedish versions of the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Reznor's soundtrack might be the only incentive to see Fincher's film (or "movie," as The Projector calls it), but it sounds like a hell of an incentive.

The Nine Inch Nails mastermind doesn't stray too far from the moody electronic drone of his Social Network score, but for Tattoo he goes infinitely more haunting, heart-racing, and visceral to match the subject matter -- The Social Network was about computer nerds and Tattoo is about a serial killer, after all. NIN fans who felt like the dude who wrote "Closer" and "Big Man With a Gun" went a little too soft on the Oscar-winning Social Network score will be more at home here. This selection could fit easily alongside the instrumental tracks on The Fragile or Ghosts I-IV. Hopefully the rest of Reznor's two-hour score is this good.

Keep an eye on Dragon Tattoo's not-so-secret production blog Mouth Taped Shut for more from Reznor's compositions. Oscar season is still months away, but it's a good bet that Trent and Drive composer Cliff Martinez will grab two of the five nominations.
