"Should we talk about the weather?" R.E.M. once sang, long before the term "tweet" meant "140-character ego dump." Lady Gaga and Lily Allen both voted "Yes!" and took up the rather mundane topic for their Twitter audiences over the weekend. To be fair, Gaga's tweets had a mission -- she was alerting fans to the fact that snowfall in France forced the postponement of one of the final dates on her Monster Ball tour. "All 28 of my trucks for the Monsterball were detained by the French government going on over 26 hrs, 2 of my employees were arrested trying to get into Paris so we could perform. I am furious and devastated, its unfair to my fans and to me," she wrote. "I love Paris + I love my French fans. I'm sorry little monsters," she added, attaching a photo
of the storm to prove the point.
Allen's communications were a bit more pointless, but also a lot more amusing (she was stuck waiting for the airline to remove the baggage of passengers who didn't make the flight). "If I was Nicholas [sic] Cage, and this was ConAir those bags would be off by now," she wrote, calling the baggage handlers "idle oafs." She resorted to snapping camera phone photos of the handlers and adding cheeky commentary like, "He looks busy."
Good Charlotte's Benji Madden, who was not snared by European weather woes this weekend, also had travel on his Twitter mind, though, which was frankly unfortunate: "If I was the pilot of an airplane, I would make random fart noises over the loud speaker, especially during turbulence& a big 1 for landing."
