Liam Gallagher’s Beatles Movie Has ‘Johnny Depp Written All Over It, Man’

A year ago, Liam Gallagher, a rocker who's been accused of loving the Beatles a little too much, purchased the film rights to a memoir called The Longest Cocktail Party that documented the inner workings of the Fab Four's Apple Corp. A year later, the film is still not in production, but Gallagher warns, "The film script is done. It's gonna blow people's minds, man. I'm just waiting to find out when we choose the actors." Gallagher also divulged who he wants to top-line the film: Johnny Depp. Apparently, the two are friends dating back to Depp's Kate Moss days.

While Depp based his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in those awful Pirates movies on Keith Richards, we can happily report that the actor is not being asked to play any members of the Beatles (come on, he's too old at this point). Instead, Gallagher wants Depp to appear as Derek Taylor, the band's long-time publicist. Taylor plays a prominent role in The Longest Cocktail Party since the book's author Richard DiLello served as Taylor's junior assistant. "Derek Taylor was a dude. He's up there with Lennon," Gallagher told Q (via AFP). "I want Johnny Depp to play Derek Taylor. It's got Johnny Depp written all over it, man."

Casting Depp would obviously give some cachet to a film we really didn't think would get made, but we just think Gallagher is spouting dream casts and not actually looking at the Future Roles section of Depp's Wikipedia page. In addition to the Keith Richards' documentary that Depp is directing, he's also set to appear in the Lone Ranger remake as Tonto, Tim Burton's film version of that Dark Shadows soap opera, another turn as Hunter S. Thompson in The Rum Diary, a spot in Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret, the William Powell role in The Thin Man remake, a cameo in the 21 Jump Street reboot, and after this past weekend, probably another Pirates sequel. Unless Gallagher plans on shooting this film in 2016, we'd recommend casting another actor.
