Yet Another Trio of Reasons to Love Dave Grohl

Amplifier

What makes Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl one of the most lovable guys in rock? Is it his winning smile? The way he humbly pshaws his role in one of the most influential bands of all time? His hilarious cameo in the SNL digital short "People Getting Punched in the Face Right Before Eating"?

Last month, The Amp lavished praise on Grohl for hating Glee, calling his band's new film "the Dumb & Dumber of rock docs," and offering to play in fans' garages to celebrate the release of Wasting Light, which was actually recorded in his own garage. This week brings three more reasons to love this lovable guy:

1) He Really Did Let Random Fans Direct Videos for Wasting Light
Fuse hosted a contest called "This Video Sucks," inviting fans to try win the chance to direct a full-length video for a track from the Foos' new album (you'll remember Grohl and Co. announced the competition by dressing in drag and getting a tongue-lashing from Kathy Griffin). Tomorrow Fuse will air 'em all out at the top of every hour, but we have a peek at "Back & Forth" here now. Yes, those are older dudes that look vaguely like the Foo Fighters dressed as homeless people. And that is what happens when random strangers direct your videos!

2) He's Giving Fans the Master Tapes From Wasting Light -- Literally
Grohl told the L.A. Weekly that after wrapping production on the band's seventh album, the group chopped up the master tapes and stuck a little piece in each copy of the album. "I thought, let's chop it up into a million pieces, and give it to the people who buy the album so they can hold it in their hands and see it," he said. "A lot of the records you buy, there's nothing you can hold in your hand, it's all 1s and 0s, this digital cloud floating in the ether. but with analog albums, you can hold it in your hand."

3) He Loves ABBA.
"I like loads of crazy-ass, dissonant, distorted rock & roll," he recently told the Daily Star. "But I also love the Bee Gees and ABBA, bands whose pop choruses get bigger and bigger." If he ever admits to being a fan of Robyn, we might cry.
