  • Five Songs to Stream: fun.

Tiara Chiaramonte at Yahoo! On the Road10 mths ago

Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost, and Jack Antonoff met while touring in different bands, but when the three joined forces to create fun., they started breaking records. The album's first single, "We Are Young," was the first multimember-band song to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 since 2001. It was also the only song to ever gain more than 300,000 downloads per week for seven weeks straight, totaling three million downloads. So, here's a look at some songs to know before fun. performs live for Yahoo! On the Road.

"All the Pretty Girls" -- This is the second single from fun.'s first album, "Aim and Ignite." This lighthearted pop song sounds the most like Ruess's first band, the Format.

"Some Nights Intro" -- This song really shows the vocal range of Ruess, who channels a little bit of Queen's Freddy Mercury in it.

"We Are Young" -- This is the anthem that launched fun.'s career and won the Grammy for song of the year. What really makes the song unique is that it draws from several genres, including power pop, indie, and alternative rock.

  • Five Songs to Stream: The Lumineers

Tiara Chiaramonte at Yahoo! On the Road11 mths ago

It's rare that a band that started with a Craigslist ad has much success, but the Lumineers are the exception. In 2005, Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites began collaborating and playing gigs around New York. But the city's high cost of living drove them to pack their bags and move to Denver, Colorado. There, the two posted the fateful Craigslist advertisement that led them to Neyla Pekarek, who had been playing cello for weddings.

Since then, the band has been nominated for two Grammys, and their first single "Ho Hey" went platinum.

Get ready for the Lumineers' Yahoo! On the Road performance by streaming these five tunes:

"Stubborn Love" - A Mumford & Sons-esque song with the twangy voice and catchy lyrics of the band's frontman, Wesley Schultz.

"Flowers in Your Hair" - A beautifully simple folk song about love.

    Five Songs to Stream: Gossip

Gossip is the trio composed of singer Beth Ditto, guitarist Nathan “Brace” Paine, and drummer Hannah Blilie.  The band’s front woman is truly the star of the show, and she is known for her avant-garde fashion sense.  Ditto has worked as a plus size model and opened for Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2011 Spring Fashion show. She collaborated with MAC for a limited edition makeup collection in 2012.

“Move in the Right Direction” -- The second single off of Gossip’s most recent album, “A Joyful Noise,” it is the band’s signature combination of pop and Goth rock.

“Heavy Cross” - You might recognize this song from the 2011 Charlize Theron J’adore Parfume Dior commercial.  Watch Theron get ready next to Marilyn Monroe and walk down the catwalk here.

“Perfect World” - Gossip’s first single off of “A Joyful Noise” was an international success.  It was top 40 in six countries and reached number one in Switzerland.

“I Won’t Play” – A good song for late night city driving.
