California is long overdue for a hardcore home state tribute. Redlands, Cali MC Connor Evans delivers with the video for “Home to the West,” which premieres on Yahoo! Music.
In the video, Connor makes his trek back home, traveling through the wilderness. He camps, washes up in a stream, commandeers a vehicle and hitchhikes to return to his home base.
In the song, Connor boasts his California Love, conveying homesickness when he’s away, rhyming, “Take me back to my sunshine” and layering the chorus with a chopped and screwed loop from Biggie’s “Going Back To Cali."Over a smooth, yet knocking backpack track produced by Tellingbeatz, Connor both sings and rhymes with ease while also shouting out Cali legends Mac Dre, Game and of course, one of the greatest to ever touch a mic.
He says of the late Mr. Tupac Shakur, “’Pac died when I was 5, but he alive in me,” and later adds, “I ain’t stoppin’ til they ‘Pac me.”
The song is from his impressive, five-song #GreenLightLife EP. He is slated to drop The Road To Coachella album this summer.
