Gotta love the title for Mateo's EP, "We've Met Before," released Tuesday on Interscope Records.
The title makes perfect since. Even though the Cincinnati singer is technically a new artist, he's hardly a rookie in the music business. He was previously signed to the now defunct MySpace Records and has garnered critical acclaim for his mixtapes, especially 2011's "Love & Stadiums" that featured out-of-the-box covers of songs from Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Lil Wayne.
The super talented artist, who is also a songwriter, recently visited Yahoo! Music to play a few songs from his EP. Below, check out his impressive acoustic renditions of his single "How Good Is Your Love" and the emotive "Sing About Me."
In Part 1 of a three-part interview, the charismatic Mateo the hilarious explains the opening scene in the "How Good Is Your Love" video when his character gets reamed by a Kevin Hart-esque co-worker, quitting his corporate job to pursue music, and hearing stories about his late grandfather, Freddy King, who was a session musician who played with the likes of James Brown.
