Mante "M-Bone" Talbert, a member of the popular rap group Cali Swag District, was fatally shot Sunday night in Inglewood, California, the Inglewood Police Department confirmed to Yahoo! Music.

Talbert is featured on the song and in the music video for the group's hit "Teach Me How To Dougie." The dance sparked a national craze and has been emulated by Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Kim Kardashian, and numerous professional athletes.

Cali Swag District discuss the origins of the Dougie

The tragedy occurred after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Lieutenant Steve Overly. "The victim Mr. Mante Ray Talbert was sitting in a vehicle on the 400 block of north LaBrea," Overly said. "An unknown vehicle pulled alongside of him. An armed gunman from that vehicle fired into Mr. Talbert's vehicle, striking him two times. He was shot in the head, transported to a nearby hospital, and later pronounced deceased."

Reports that a red vehicle was involved have not "quite been confirmed," according to Lieutenant Overly.

"Mante, aged 22, was the comedic entertainer of Cali Swag District, and was an inspiration to his family, friends and fans. He was a hardworking, passionate artist and dancer that will be deeply missed," a spokesperson for the group said in a statement.

The statement asks that anyone with information contact the Inglewood Police Department.

Recently, the group discussed its excitement seeing Michelle Obama doing the Dougie dance with junior high school students. The Dougie is one of the dances Beyonce performs in her "Move Your Body" video created in support of Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" healthy eating and exercise campaign.

"We would have never imagined seeing the first lady out there getting her Dougie on," said group member C-Smoove. "It's an honor."
