Charli XCX Calls Latest Album 'Raw' and 'Unapologetic'
On Sunday, July 5, starting at 5:15 a.m. PT/8:15 a.m. ET, Yahoo Live will live stream Charli XCX and others from the New Look Wireless Festival in London. Tune in HERE to watch!
"Boom Clap" singer Charli XCX says her third album, Sucker, is an eclectic mixture of some of her influences. “It’s very aggressive, probably the most pop thing I’ve ever done,” she told Yahoo in an exclusive interview earlier this year before her Saturday Night Live debut. “It’s infused with lots of things from the ‘yeah yeah!’ pop from the ’60s and France to punk music to me being obsessed with Britney Spears.”
Charli adds that the music will give her a distinct sound. “It’s different from a lot of stuff on Top 40 radio right now,” she said. “It’s very raw and wild and in-your-face and kinda unapologetic.”
Charli also clarifies that the XCX part of her name actually has an endearing meaning. “The XCX stands for ‘Kiss Charli Kiss,’” she revealed. “It used to be my old MSN screen name and I kinda just panicked when I had to come up with an artist name. So I just stuck with my MSN screen name. It’s very PG.”
