Honey Boo Boo’s ‘Movin’ Up’ Is Reality TV’s ‘Started From the Bottom’

Ten-year-old reality TV star Alana Thompson, a.k.a Honey Boo Boo, has made the jump to recording artist with a new song and video called “Movin’ Up."

It’s unclear whether Honey Boo Boo is trying to be a singer or a rapper, but in today’s hybrid music climate – maybe that’s a good thing. “Movin’ Up” features a minimal beat - possibly composed on a toy keyboard - a rags-to-riches story inspired maybe by Drake’s “Started From the Bottom," and lots and lots of shouting.

And despite her hit reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo being cancelled last year, the gang’s all here: her father, Sugar Bear, her sister, Pumpkin, and of course her mom, Mama June.

The music video was shot by GR Media, which has previously produced videos for similar fringe Internet personalities such as Myla Sinanaj, better known as the girl who dated Kim Kardashian’s ex, Kris Humphries, and Patricia Krentcil, better known as New Jersey’s very own “Tan Mom."

“Movin’ Up” is currently available for purchase on iTunes where one review has described it as “like nails on a chalkboard but worse.”

For some music that might be more up your alley, Yahoo Live is exclusively streaming a concert from Warren Haynes. Check out the show Friday, October 2, here.
