Kanye West Announces Run for 2020 Presidency at MTV VMAs, Says 'I'm Not No Politician, Bro!'

It might be a step below calling himself Yeezus, but at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West announced his race for the White House, saying, “As you probably could have guessed… I have decided in 2020 to run for President.”

In his 11-minute meandering acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, Kanye made good with Taylor Swift, held back tears, and also ironically declared in the face of his Presidential announcement, “I’m not no politician, bro!”

Kanye’s speech was definitely the highlight from the VMAs, but there were a couple other expected, but totally hypnotizing, moments. For one, Taylor Swift was caught dancing in the crowd – which at this point is an award show staple. And she also buried the hatchet with Nicki Minaj, after a Twitter tiff started over Nicki’s presumption that her video for “Anaconda” was snubbed because of industry body standards. They made their peace onstage with a tongue-in-cheek version of Taylor’s smash hit ”Bad Blood."

Of course, with the end of one beef comes the start of another. Before the VMAs, host Miley Cyrus criticized Nicki Minaj in the New York Times for complaining about her snub impolitely and angrily. And here’s what Nicki had to say back: “This bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press… Miley, what’s good?” Miley tried to spin it by replying that the press had manipulated what she said.

But given Miley’s show-ending performance, our guess is that she doesn’t care about Nicki at all. She debuted a new song, called “Dooo It” – spelled with three O’s – which featured the Flaming Lips and alumni from the show RuPaul’s Drag Race. The song is from Miley’s new project, called Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, which she surprise-released online for free at the end of the ceremony.

Other smaller highlights from the VMAs included Justin Bieber’s tearful return to the stage, a selfie taken by Miley that was a thousand times weirder than Ellen DeGeneres’s pic at the Oscars last year, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's retro-tastic performance of their old-school moped anthem "Downtownb."

And as far as big wins go, Taylor Swift took home the top award for Video of the Year for her remix of “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar, bringing her supermodel squad to the podium for her acceptance speech.
