Nicki Minaj Calls Out Miley Cyrus on Racial Hypocrisy

One of the most notable moments from this year’s VMAs was Nicki Minaj’s instantly GIF-able reaction to Miley Cyrus, saying with a menacing look, “Miley, what’s good?”

That loaded remark was provoked after Cyrus told The New York Times that Minaj’s tweets about getting snubbed at the VMAs – according to her, due to body image standards and racial discrimination - were “angry” and “not very polite."

And now it’s coming full circle. In a new article for The New York Times Magazine – apparently, the venerable news outlet is serving as a sort of liaison between the two pop stars – Minaj explained why Cyrus’s comments got her so heated, saying it’s hypocritical of her to “feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women.”

Minaj continued: “You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important?”

Cyrus has previously faced criticism about cultural appropriation, specifically with her rampant twerking, and Minaj also commented on that while speaking to the Times, saying: “If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us…twerk with us…then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us.”

Cyrus hasn’t yet responded, but if history is any indicator, she might throw in her two cents in an upcoming article in the Times. Or, more probably, Twitter.
