Taylor Swift Cried, Binged on Burgers After Losing Grammy in 2014

Taylor Swift took it pretty hard when she was passed over for Album Of The Year at the 2014 Grammys. At a recent intimate listening session, she spoke to the Nashville chapter of the Recording Academy about how she initially thought her album Red had won – but then found out it actually lost to two French robots.

She said, “When [the Grammys] announced the Album of the Year winner, it was like ‘and the Album of the Year goes to…Reeeeaaandom Access Memories, Daft Punk.'"

While Swift is now able to laugh off the disappointment, at the time she was broken up. She told the audience, “I remember not going to after parties, I went home…and I cried a little bit. And I got In-N-Out Burger and ate a lot.”

Swift later explained the silver lining behind the crushing moment as Red’s loss became the driving force behind her fifth album, the smash hit 1989. The listening session focused on how she created her very first pop album and the singer played a never-before-heard acoustic demo of “Blank Space," with gibberish standing in for some of the lyrics. The recording was from when she first played the song for Swedish producer Max Martin, who served as a co-executive producer with Swift on 1989.

The listening session audience was made up of Nashville Grammy members, producers, and engineers and Swift happily dived into explaining the technical nuances behind “Blank Space." She even shared silly cell phone footage of how she and producer Shellback recorded some very specific vocals.
