The Beastie Boys Will (Sort of) Appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Beastie Boys are rumored to be featured in the upcoming Star Wars movie, although if it’s true, it’s more a tribute than an actual, physical appearance.

The group’s 1998 album, Hello Nasty – which features the song “Intergalactic” – potentially inspired a character in the Force Awakens sequel. Science blog iO9 connected the dots after images leaked of an alien action figure called "Ello Asty." Hello NastyEllo Asty…it’s not just a coincidence.

Even more convincing is that according to an online Star Wars toy guide, the fictional language on Ello Asty’s helmet translates to “Born to Ill," clearly a spin on the Beasties debut record Licensed to Ill.

Starwars.com doesn’t have much info on the character other than this: “Ello Asty is a skilled if occasionally reckless X-wing starfighter pilot for the Resistance.”

Skilled yet reckless? Sounds like a pretty spot-on description of the Beastie Boys.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is being directed by J.J. Abrams who previously embedded his love for the Beastie Boys in his Star Trek reboot by including their song “Sabotage."

Following the death of MCA in 2012, the Beastie Boys decided to disband, making a full Star Wars appearance from the trio impossible. But, a cameo by Adam Horovitz a.k.a. Ad-Rock wouldn’t be out of the question. Last year, he flexed his acting muscles in the Ben Stiller movie While We’re Young.
