The big winners at Wednesday's Brit Awards were Arctic Monkeys and One Direction, but David Bowie upstaged them and everyone else — without even being there.

The MIA rock icon dispatched the normally reticent supermodel Kate Moss to accept the Best British Male trophy on his behalf.

And there's no doubt that Kate was the best-dressed celebrity at the 2014 Brits, since she arrived sporting Bowie's original Ziggy Stardust costume, worn by the glam-rocker himself in 1972 at his legendary concert at London's Rainbow Theatre.

When Brits presenter Noel Gallagher announced that 67-year-old Bowie, who made a massive comeback last year with his album "The Next Day" after a decade-long hiatus, had become the oldest winner in Brits history by triumphing over younger nominees Jake Bugg, James Blake, John Newman, and Tom Odell, the Oasis rocker quipped: "You maniacs didn't think David Bowie was actually going to be here! David Bowie's too cool for that! He don't do this s---! David Bowie is sending his representative on Earth, which is the one-and-only Kate Moss, who is going to accept this award on his behalf."

Moss made waves at the Brits not just for showing up looking fabulously glam in Bowie's iconic, bunny-patterned "Woodland Creatures" onesie designed by Kansai Yamamoto, but for her recitation of Bowie's odd prepared speech.

"In Japanese myth, the rabbits on my old costume, that Kate's wearing, live on the moon. Kate comes from Venus, and I from Mars. So that's nice," the speech began, before it ended with "Scotland, stay with us!" — an unexpected reference to a Sept. 18 referendum in which Scottish citizens will decide whether to remain part of the United Kingdom or become an independent state.

This was only Bowie's second Brit Awards win in his entire career. Bowie previously won the Best British Male Award 30 years ago.
