‘The Office’ finale: The 5 best surprises

It's over, you guys. After nine seasons and 23 episodes, "The Office" has come to an end, bringing the whole gang (and we mean the whole gang) together for one last hurrah before leaving work forever.

That "hurrah," of course, was the long-awaited wedding between Angela (Angelina Kinsey) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson). Taking place one year after the May 9 episode -- the one that saw Dwight and Angela get engaged-- the Dunder-Mifflin crew re-united for the nuptials, giving fans, the cast, and their characters a chance for closure: Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) now owned a bar, Toby (Paul Lieberstein) is in New York writing the next great American novel, Oscar (Oscar Nunez) is godfather to Dwight and Angela's son, Meredith (Kate Flannery) has a degree, and Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) are moving to Austin.

But these weren't all the surprises, so here are five of our favourites. "The Office," we'll miss you.

Dwight and Jim are best friends
And now that Jim's admitted Dwight is one of his closest friends, we'll look back on all his old pranks and re-appreciate them as gestures of love.

Kelly (Minday Kaling) and Ryan (BJ Novak) haven't changed
Admit it: there was a part of you that thought, upon hearing that Kelly was married to a pediatrician and that Ryan had a son named Drake, that the two notoriously immature Dunder-Mifflin employees had finally grown up. And then there was an even bigger part of you that was grateful when you realized they'd only gotten worse, and were willing to poison their own children (Ryan gives his son a strawberry to incite an allergic reaction so he can talk to Kelly) to be together. If there's ever an "Office" reunion, it deserves to be at their wedding -- or at least at the premiere of whatever season of "Real Housewives" Kelly Kapoor will find herself on.

Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) now works at Cornell -- ever heard of it?
Andy faced his share of ups and downs this season, especially as he toyed with everything from an acting career to Pam's wrath after his extended absence (which was due to filming "The Hangover III," FYI). But to learn the Nard-Dawg had gone on to speak at a Cornell event, and then scored a job working in admissions was worth each and every moment we shouted "ugh!" at him over the course of the last year.

Erin (Ellie Kemper) meets her birth mom
It's an "Office" fact that Erin was adopted, so at the pre-wedding Q&A (because remember, the characters are now the stars of a documentary that took nine years to film), it seemed normal for a woman (played by Joan Cusack) to ask Erin whether or not she hated her birth mother. "Not hate-hate," Erin answered -- which was a relief, since Joan Cusack('s character) was her birth mother. Gasp!

Michael Scott (Steve Carell) returns
Was anything more wonderful than the return of Michael Scott via Jim's "best prank ever"? Yes: the fact that he needed two cell phones to hold all the pictures of his kids. Oh, and when he likened his ex-staff to children "who grew up and married each other." And, of course, "that's what she said" -- Michael's very first line in the episode. Michael Scott, we missed you. (And no, we're not crying! It's just raining on our faces.)

So here's to "The Office," which gave us countless tears, and even more jokes (and we're talking about this episode alone). What were your favourite episodes, moments, and surprises?
