A report from People on Thursday noted that a source confirmed the split, explaining, "They are both so busy right now...They are both on the road and have to spend a lot of time apart, which isn't ideal for any couple, let alone a couple trying to plan a wedding."
Gilbert's camp had no comment on the report; meanwhile, as of posting time, Kramer's rep had not responded to a request for more information. However, it sounds as if the matter was overall amicable, with no foul play or third parties involved.
Gilbert and Kramer announced their engagement in January, after confirming they were dating in September 2012. The pair charmed fans a few short months later by competing head-to-head in the new artist category at April's Academy of Country Music Awards (both lost to duo Florida Georgia Line).
At that time, Gilbert told us that he and the former "One Tree Hill" actress had set their wedding date (he declined to reveal it), and that they were doing very well indeed. "We're both just really happy," he noted. "In the beginning, [our relationship] was kind of under the radar. So we like being out, being able to hold hands and not have to hide it anymore. There's no agenda to be, like, anything. Our relationship is what it is."
