The Civil Wars are Back! Duo Announces New Album

Our Country

Back in November, Grammy-winning duo (and famous Taylor Swift collaborators) the Civil Wars disappointed legions of fans by abruptly announcing a complete cancellation of their tour. While their fate seemed uncertain at the time, it now seems they're back on good ground--the band announced Wednesday that a new album is on the way.

Joy Williams and John Paul White teased fans in March by tweeting "We will be sharing some good news with you on May 1st, 2013." True to form, they followed up on that date with the tweet "A new self-titled album will be released soon!"

The pair shared a photo that appeared to be the album cover, and urged everyone to visit their official site for more details.

All fine and well, except the site overloaded and crashed mere minutes after the tweet!

Various sources were able to access the band's notes prior to the crash: The new record, which follows 2011's critically acclaimed and independently released Barton Hollow, will be released sometime this summer. Williams and White wrote separately about the music, with Williams saying she's "fiercely proud" of the new album and White merely thanking fans for their patience.

No reason for their recent internal discord was given.

The Civil Wars most recently worked with T Bone Burnett on the soundtrack for A Place at the Table, a 2013 documentary about hunger in America. They have won three Grammy awards, one with Swift for their contribution to the Hunger Games companion album, and have toured with British megastar Adele.
