Kelly Clarkson

Country fans were all abuzz this week with newlywed Kelly Clarkson's announcement that she's got a bun in the oven — just weeks after she said "I do" to Reba McEntire's stepson Brandon Blackstock!

At 31, Clarkson — who has made a long-anticipated foray into country music after ruling the pop charts for years — certainly qualifies as a young mom, but she's far from the youngest in country music history.  Let's take a look at some of country's youngest moms, which span a range of several decades!

While Clarkson was still planning her wedding (and eventual elopement), Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott gave birth to her first daughter, Eisele Kay, in July. Scott, 27, had celebrated her own wedding about a year and a half earlier.

Meanwhile, one of country's modern greats, Martina McBride, had her first of three daughters at the age of 28. Faith Hill, who also has three daughters, started her family off at just a few months shy of 30.

Going a little further back, Tammy Wynette had already given birth to two daughters by the age of 20. But there's one who beats all: "Coal Miner's Daughter" Loretta Lynn famously had her first baby at age 16!

Lynn was so young that she didn't even fully comprehend the situation. "When I got married, I didn't even know what pregnant meant," Lynn noted in an interview with Esquire. "I was five months' pregnant when I went to the doctor and he said, 'You're gonna have a baby.'"

Things are a little bit different these days! For example, there’s another very young pop star who, like Clarkson, is crossing over into country music. And she happens to be a mom, as well: Jamie Lynn Spears, who had her daughter, Maddie, at age 17. Now 21, Britney’s little sister has been living in Nashville for the past year working on her debut country album, which is expected to be out this year. She also recently told E! that this record was "like my second baby.”

At any rate, everyone loves a baby announcement — and we're all still waiting with bated breath for some of Nashville's other young brides to announce their family plans. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler ... no pressure or anything, gals, but we're looking at you!
