George Strait Forced To Stop Singing Onstage Due To Illness

They don't call him the King of Country for nothing--but George Strait may be working just a little too hard lately. The superstar was forced to throw in the towel on stage at the Sprint Center in Kansas City Saturday night, telling the audience he was too sick to continue.

It seems laryngitis was Strait's problem that evening. According to the Kansas City Star, he managed to get through two songs ("Here For a Good Time" and "I Gotta Get To You") before telling the crowd of 18,000 fans "I just can't do it" in a hoarse voice.

Strait's official site noted that he and his management company had considered whether he was too ill to sing, but he decided to give it a try.

The Star reported that the crowd was disappointed, but gave Strait a standing ovation for his efforts. The singer then asked everyone to hold on to their tickets, promising a rescheduled show.

The KC do-over will take place on March 3--all tickets from the Feb. 25 show at the Sprint Center will be honored at the rescheduled show. An extra treat: Martina McBride, Strait's opener, will perform at this show. Her set prior to Strait's canceled one last Saturday was just fine, so Kansas City fans will get to see her twice.

Get well soon, George! Brewing a cup of tea with lemon in your honor!
